EVERETT — It started in early February when an Everett man advertised his 1997 Acura Integra on Craigslist.
It ended Wednesday morning after police tracked down a Mukilteo man, 22. He’s suspected of being one of two people who responded to the ad, knocked the seller unconscious and stole the car.
On Feb. 3, the victim posted the classified ad on the Internet site, according to a police affidavit filed in Everett District Court.
The next day, he received an e-mail from someone interested in the car. They arranged to meet.
Around 7 p.m. on Feb. 6, the seller and buyer met at Bally’s fitness in Everett, each bringing a friend along, the court document said.
All four men got in the car for a test drive. The buyers complained the seller’s friend was adding too much weight to the car and they weren’t able to get an accurate feel for how the car drove. The seller’s friend got out.
Near the 6500 block of Merrill Creek Parkway, the buyers asked to take a look at the engine. When the seller popped the hood, he was attacked by both men, the documents said.
The seller told police he briefly lost consciousness, waking up to see his car being driven away. He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.
Detectives with the Snohomish County Auto Theft Task Force investigated and used the Craigslist e-mail to track down the Mukilteo man.
He was arrested Wednesday at his mother’s house and jailed for investigation of first-degree robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.
A judge ordered the man held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
