MUKILTEO — The last week or so was a bad time to be a burglar in Mukilteo.
People in the city gave police three great tips that led to six burglary arrests, officer Cheol Kang said. It all happened within days.
First, someone in Mukilteo noticed people walking around claiming to be looking for a lost dog, Kang said. They seemed suspicious.
“Something just stood out about their actions and their demeanor,” he said.
Police were called, and the officers who responded soon realized the people had just broken into a home. Two were arrested, and police suspect they may be linked to other burglaries in town, Kang said.
A few days later, a similar scenario unfolded.
A local storage company had reported multiple burglaries of storage units.
An alert employee called police to report suspicious visitors, who apparently were pawing through units that weren’t theirs.
“Lo and behold, that was exactly what they were doing,” Kang said.
Police made two arrests on the spot, and that case remains under investigation.
Two more arrests came Monday.
A railroad employee called to report two men stealing drainage equipment, likely to sell as scrap metal, Kang said.
“(Officers) were able to apprehend them pretty much in the act,” he said.
Officers are thankful for the public’s vigilance, Kang said. The tips helped them develop cases that turned up physical evidence, suspects and arrests. Those cases could lead to bigger investigations.
“Six burglars, one week — not a bad week,” Kang said.
