MUKILTEO — The orange reflective vest a man wore while trying to break into a Mukilteo home Tuesday helped police identify him as he and his accomplices tried to get away.
The man, 39, and two women, 24 and 26, were arrested after a neighbor called police to report suspicious activity around 8:45 a.m. in the 5600 block of 26th Avenue SW, according to police reports and a court document.
The neighbor at first thought the man in the vest was a meter reader, but later became concerned when she saw a car circling the house, the documents said.
Someone tried to use a large rock to break a window in the home. Instead of smashing the glass, the impact set off a burglar alarm.
The group of would-be burglars jumped in a car and drove off, but were stopped by police who were able to identify the group because the man was still wearing the vest, Mukilteo Police Chief Mike Murphy said.
The homeowner also had video surveillance, which officers used to identify the suspects.
All three suspects were booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of attempted residential burglary.
