Murder charge filed in Everett slaying of Seattle woman

EVERETT – Investigators found blood smeared inside the bathroom of man now charged with murdering a Seattle woman and dumping her body in a sleeping bag along the side of a south Everett road.

Prosecutors this afternoon charged James Michael Naudon with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon for the death of Angela Denise Beery. Naudon, 25, was arrested Wednesday in California. A Snohomish County Superior Court judge this afternoon signed a $1 million warrant for Naudon’s arrest. He is expected to be brought to Snohomish County in the coming weeks.

Beery’s body was found Sunday. Everett police detectives got a break in the case Tuesday after Naudon’s father called to report that his son appeared to be missing. Police learned that Naudon had fled to California and sent text messages to friends, according to court records. In the messages, Naudon said he’d done something terrible that would send him to prison for the rest of his life, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Dave Hiltner wrote.

Naudon has no prior criminal convictions.

Beery’s boyfriend told investigators he’d been with her Saturday until about 2 p.m. He spoke with her again a few hours later.

Everett detectives canvassed local bars and learned that a bartender saw Naudon and Beery having drinks together Saturday evening. The couple left together about 8:30 p.m. and were talking about going to a movie, Hiltner wrote.

Investigators searched Naudon’s apartment Wednesday and found signs of foul play, including blood and hair similar to Beery’s, court papers said. They also discovered black plastic on the bathroom floor.

Beery, 39, was stabbed in the throat, neck and head. She was nearly decapitated and there was evidence that she’d been strangled, Hiltner wrote. Her body was found wrapped in black plastic and duct tape. She’d been stuffed in a sleeping bag.
