A mystery man floated down the river and into Lori Deveney’s riverside neighborhood between Granite Falls and Arlington.
He was a little soggy and silt-laden, but in surprisingly good shape considering his journey.
Deveney was beachcombing this weekend on a gravel bar on the south fork of the Stillaguamish River when she found some household items that last week’s floodwaters had deposited.
The mystery man was there in the form of a waterlogged, unframed photograph.
He’s standing with a chain saw over some freshly cut logs. The photo has no label, but somebody wrote 1981 on the back.
Deveney wondered if the photo might have been lost by people upstream in Granite Falls or Robe, where homes have been pounded by flooding in recent weeks.
Or perhaps somebody closer upstream simply lost the photo somehow.
"Nearby, there was a plastic chair, an air mattress — who knows where it came from," Deveney said.
If this is a photo that somebody still values, Deveney wants to make sure it gets back to its owner.
If anyone knows who the photograph belongs to, call Herald reporter Scott Morris at 425-339-3292 and leave a message with a daytime phone number.
