EVERETT — The Snohomish County chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People plans to celebrate the holiday season Saturday with a party designed to introduce its new officers.
Snohomish County Judge Eric Lucas, the chapter’s president, said he plans to hand out a statement about the chapter, and will welcome anyone who wishes to join the organization. The party also will serve as the chapter’s monthly meeting, Lucas said.
“When the new officers came in, we didn’t have a lot of planning time, but we wanted to make sure that people had an opportunity to meet us,” Lucas said.
Lucas was elected in October in a meeting called by Oscar Eason, president of the NAACP’s state area conference, which includes Alaska, Washington and Oregon. Lucas is joined by Wally Webster as vice president, Janice Green as second vice president, Marvetta Toler as secretary and James Street as treasurer.
Saturday’s party is open to the public, and anyone will be able to sign up to join the local NAACP chapter. The chapter’s membership is currently between 25 and 50 people, Lucas said.
Beginning in January, the chapter’s general membership meetings will be held the fourth Tuesday of each month at the Snohomish County Public Utilities District building in Everett. The chapter’s executive board will meet the second Tuesday of each month at varying sites.
