A Chinese military delegation will begin a five-day tour of U.S. military installations in Hawaii and California today and meet with senior U.S. officers. About 30 midlevel military commanders in the People’s Liberation Army will visit U.S. Pacific Command headquarters in Hawaii, tour a guided missile destroyer in San Diego and observe a Marine training at Camp Pendleton, Calif. It is the third such visit by Chinese military officers since the countries agreed last October to increase military exchanges.
Indiana: Inmate tattoos in revenge
An inmate accused of forcibly tattooing a slain 10-year-old girl’s name onto her killer’s forehead in an Indiana prison was the victim’s cousin, a family friend said. Jared Harris, 22, is a cousin of Katlyn “Katie” Collman, family friend Terry Gray said. Harris has been charged with battery and is accused of tattooing “KATIE’S REVENGE” across Anthony Ray Stockelman’s forehead. Harris told prison officials the attack was in revenge, according to an affidavit. Stockelman is serving a life sentence after pleading guilty to abducting, molesting and killing the fourth-grader.
Oklahoma: Fatal hay ride stunt
A man staging a bungee-jumping stunt to scare passengers on a Halloween hay ride in South Coffeyville died after his head slammed into the side of a trailer, authorities said. Frank Pfister, 56, was fatally injured Saturday while several hundred people were attending the Trail of Spooks Hay Rack Ride. Nowata County officials said the death appeared to be accidental.
Wisconsin: Fireworks shop burns
A man attempting to rob a Lac du Flambeau fireworks shop fired his shotgun, igniting fireworks and starting a blaze that destroyed the business, authorities said. No injuries were reported at North American Fireworks. A 20-year-old man was being held in jail after being tracked to a home about 10 miles away.
