Hawaii: Lava delta falls into sea
A 16-acre lava delta formed by the Kilauea volcano fell into the sea at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island. No one was injured as the newly formed land disappeared into the sea on Thursday afternoon because the collapsed area was more than two miles from a park viewing site. Park officials also evacuated visitors to a safe viewing area. The lava sections generated steam plumes reaching 200 feet to 1,000 feet into the air as they fell into the ocean, the Hawaii Volcano Observatory said.
