Family farm honored: During the Evergreen State Fair, which ends today, Snohomish County recognized Macomber Farms as part of the county’s Centennial Farms program.

The Granite Falls area farm began in 1908 when Swiss immigrant Jake Spichiger, owner of a Granite Falls butcher shop, and his wife, Theresa, purchased 40 acres for $2,500. They bought more land over the years. The family has operated a dairy business, run a berry and hay farm, and raised beef cattle.

Macomber Farms is now run by Jackie Macomber, born into the Spichiger family, and her son Todd Macomber. They sell grass-fed beef and Jackie Macomber has quarter-horses. Snohomish County has 30 Centennial Farms, each in the same family ownership for 100 years or more.
