Photography event to help families

Irene Jones Photography is planning a fundraiser for the Lake Stevens Family Center.

People who have their photo taken at the business on Dec. 3 and 4 will have 50 percent of the cost of their sitting fees and purchases go toward supporting the Lake Stevens Family Center. Irene Jones Photography is located at 2110 Broadway.

Lake Stevens: Coin drive fundraiser

Glenwood Elementary School has planned a coin drive to help send food home with students to share with their families during Thanksgiving and winter break. Coins, cash and check donations payable to Glenwood ASB~LHH can be dropped off at or mailed to Glenwood Elementary until Dec. 10. Glenwood Elementary is located at 2221 103rd Ave. SE in Lake Stevens.

Li’l Hungry Hearts served eight students and their families from March to June with food for the week of Spring Break and the weekends. The program also helped to supply food to three students during the summer.

Mountlake Terrace: Council adopts budget

The Mountlake Terrace City Council has adopted the 2011-2012 Biennial Budget, 2011 Property Tax Ordinance, and the 2011 – 2015 Recreation and Parks Fee Resolution.

The Biennial Budget doesn’t include layoffs or reductions in services.

The 2011 Property Tax Levy results in a net decrease for an average Mountlake Terrace homeowner of $2 in 2011 from what was paid in 2010.

County: Schools win energy grants

Three Snohomish County school districts won grants this month for energy-related projects from the state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. The Everett School District was awarded $818,000 for improvements to its lighting and its heating and air conditioning controls. The Edmonds School District won $750,000 for updates to its heating and air conditioning systems. The Northshore School District won $98,444 for work on its boilers.

The grants were awarded as part of the third and final round of funding from the state for energy improvements across the state.

Stanwood: Highway work continues

Nighttime lane closures on Highway 532 are expected today and Tuesday as crews finish drainage work.

Today, crews are set to install monuments on the highway bridge between Stanwood and Camano Island. The monuments are sculptures by Debbi Rhodes of Camano. The work won’t require a lane closure, but it could cause a distraction, state transportation department spokesman Dave Chesson said.
