KELSO, Wash. — Cowlitz County commissioners have approved nearly $200,000 in additional funding for a homeless shelter in Kelso.
The Daily News reported that commissioners approved the money Tuesday for the Love Overwhelming shelter.
That brings the total amount approved this year by commissioners for the shelter to more than $510,000.
The money comes from the county’s mental health tax and document recording fees, which are restricted to programs and facilities that work to reduce homelessness.
The other homeless shelter in the area, Community House on Broadway, announced Monday it is severing ties to the county and will no longer participate in the county’s coordinated entry program for homeless services.
