Neil Young, and possibly Death Cab for Cutie, plans to play Everett on Oct. 21 in a show that would bring together a musical icon and an MTV mainstay.
Comcast Arena at Everett will host the concert, the venue announced today.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, Young has remained one of the most vital singer-songwriters to come out of the late 1960s. His recent albums, including “Living with War” and 2007’s “Chrome Dreams II,” were roundly praised, even if he remains best known for earlier work, including the songs “Heart of Gold,” “Old Man” and “Rockin’ in the Free World.”
Meanwhile, Bellingham’s Death Cab for Cutie are expected to join Young on several dates, but have yet to be confirmed for the Everett show. The group, which headlines Bumbershoot 2008 in Seattle on Sept. 1, enjoyed the highest chart position of its career with the May release of “Narrow Stairs.” The album entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1 and has produced the hit song “I Will Possess Your Heart” and recent single “No Sunlight.”
The concert joins what is becoming a strong fall and winter schedule for Comcast Arena. Notably, emo favorites Panic at the Disco and Dashboard Confessional will play the venue on Oct. 14, while Broadway star Sarah Brightman headlines Dec. 14.
Tickets for the Young’s concert go on sale Sept. 12, and range in cost from $52 to $177 before service fees, according to the venue. For more information in the coming weeks, visit www.heraldnet.com, www.comcastarenaeverett.com or call 866-332-8499.
