CLE ELUM — A fire district spokeswoman say a wind-driven new wildfire burning northeast of Cle Elum in central Washington has burned 12 structures including some homes and is threatening dozens more.
Kittitas County Fire District 7 spokeswoman Richelle Risdon said the Taylor Bridge fire had burned more than 3 square miles — more than 2,000 acres — by Monday evening. The Kittitas County sheriff’s office estimates the fire at 2,800 acres. The sheriff is advising those in the path of the blaze to evacuate. No injuries have been reported.
Risdon confirms that the 12 structures burned include some homes but she was unable to say how many. She estimates more than 30 other residences are threatened.
An emergency shelter has been opened in Cle Elum.
Helicopters dropped water on flames that are burning through rural areas of forest, pasture and dry grassland. Risdon says the 100 firefighters on the lines are expected to increase to more than 250 by Tuesday.
The fire started Monday afternoon. The cause is under investigation.
