EVERETT — New zoning rules to protect mobile home parks were signed into law by Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon on Friday.
The legislation aims to protect more than two dozen mobile home parks in urban parts of unincorporated Snohomish County. Proponents say it should help 2,000 people stay in their homes. The signing took place at Carriage Club Estates near Highway 99 in south Everett. The law becomes effective 10 days after signing.
Reardon and the County Council worked together to draft the law. While designed to help park tenants protect their homes, which often cannot be moved, it also gives park owners some options to develop their land.
The park owners group Manufactured Housing Communities of Washington is suing Tumwater in federal court over a similar law. The group has said it might challenge Snohomish County as well, citing violations of its Constitutional property rights.
