EVERETT – A new northbound carpool lane along I-5 is expected to open on Saturday morning, after construction crews were able to take advantage of the nice weather, the state Department of Transportation announced this afternoon.
The new lane that runs six miles between U.S. 2 and Highway 526 is expected to save commuters eight minutes in the commute through Everett on I-5. The state already opened a new southbound car pool lane along the busy freeway.
The Everett I-5 widening project is scheduled to wrap up this summer. The $263 million work is considered the third most expensive highway project in the state’s history.
