EVERETT – Residents and business owners concerned with crime in south Everett will soon have a new way to reach the police patrolling their streets.
As part of a new project to crack down on crime in unincorporated Snohomish County, the sheriff’s office plans to set up a new phone line that people can call to talk about their concerns.
“A huge part of this is making partnerships. We can’t do it alone,” Lt. Rob Beidler said.
The phone line is one tool that will be used in Operation Clean Sweep, a project aimed at reducing crime in a small unincorporated section south of Everett.
The targeted area is from 112th Street SE and 128th Street SE between Highway 99 and I-5.
The section only encompasses about one square mile, but the sheriff’s office considers it one of the highest-crime areas it patrols.
The sheriff’s office has launched a yearlong project to focus on crime in the area, devoting additional deputies when possible. It also is working with other police departments and agencies to make changes in the area.
Deputies will be available to answer questions and meet with concerned residents and business owners at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Albertsons parking lot on 128th Street SW.
