SPOKANE — Spokane residents will get welcome relief from the hot summer when the city opens two new swimming pools.
The pools at Shadle and Cannon parks will open at noon today, and officials tell The Spokesman-Review they expect big crowds. The pools are the first of six being replaced at city parks under a $43 million bond issue that voters approved in 2007.
Parks officials had hoped to have all six pools open in time for summer, but the heavy snows of last winter delayed construction. The other four pools are to open later this summer.
