WHITE SALMON — Two fast-moving new wildfires burning north of White Salmon in the Columbia River Gorge have burned across more than 2 square miles — or 1,500 acres — and threaten 30 homes.
State fire spokeswoman Debbie Robinson said Wednesday night that residents of those homes have been told to evacuate. Residents of another 400 homes have been warned they may have to evacuate. So far, no structures have burned.
The wildfires that started Wednesday afternoon are burning in terrain that ranges from very steep to rolling. The cause is under investigation.
Robinson said four fire starts were reported initially but two were quickly extinguished.
State Highway 141 in the area was temporarily closed.
