MOUNT VERNON — The Skagit County prosecutor says he won’t charge a family that took $345,000 in state money for water system improvements already paid by the county.
Prosecutor Rich Weyrich told the Skagit Valley Herald that the statute of limitations expired in the 5-year-old case involving the Bullerville Utility District. It serves property owned by a single family near Rockport including a resort called Clark’s Cabins.
The district received a $350,000 grant in 2003 to improve its water system. The county paid contractors. The district also submitted invoices to the state Department of Commerce, which reimbursed it $345,000 in 2008.
The state auditor’s office referred the case to the prosecutor.
Bullerville Utility District Board President Don Clark told the paper he could not respond to Weyrich’s decision until he looked into it.
