EVERETT — A chimney fire spread to the attic of a home, displacing the residents Friday morning.
The fire was reported about 8:45 a.m. in the 11800 block of Second Drive SE. A couple and their two young grandchildren were inside the house but escaped safely and called 911 from a neighbor’s home, according to Leslie Hynes, Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman.
Heavy smoke and flames were visible when firefighters from District 1 and District 7 arrived. Flames burned through the roof near the chimney.
Snohomish County Deputy Fire Marshal Gary Bontrager determined that the fire likely started when heat from the chimney ignited combustible materials nearby. Damage to the house was estimated at $45,000.
