OLYMPIA — The latest unemployment numbers for Washington state won’t be released next week because of the government shutdown.
The state Employment Security Department said Friday that because the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics is closed, it hasn’t transferred the September report to the states. The September jobless numbers, which were scheduled to be released next Wednesday, will now be delayed indefinitely.
Nearly all labor-market information staff for the Employment Security Department has been furloughed because of lack of federal funds. The department gets 87 percent of its funding from the federal government.
