SULTAN — Alone this Thanksgiving? Sultan does not want you to feel that way.
Volunteers of America Sky Family and Community Resource Center is hosting their eighth annual Sultan Harvest Thanksgiving Day dinner with plenty of turkey and friendly faces to keep you company.
“Anybody is welcome to come in,” said Dave Wood, director of the Sky Valley Services.
The event is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, at the Large A Frame Building, at 617 First St., in Sultan.
“It is the time the community gathers to enjoy a nice meal,” Wood said.
Wood expects a large attendance. About 240 meals were made last year but Wood expects there will be more this year, because so many people are struggling financially.
They are ready with 26 turkeys and pounds and pounds of potatoes, dressing and vegetables to feed the diners, Wood said.
There also will be photos with Santa Claus, arts and crafts for children and winter clothes will be given to those in need.
All food and materials were donated from community members and businesses in the east Snohomish County region, Wood said. The organization will have 30 to 35 volunteers at the event.
Wood said there was a surplus of volunteers. He received calls from people in Seattle and Shoreline interested in helping. He had to put several of them on an waiting list if someone is unable to show Thursday.
These volunteers will help serve food and will visit with folks who are not with their families.
“We have the philosophy that nobody eats alone,” Wood said.
