EVERETT — A new organization plans to honor someone who has helped make his or her community a better place, and it’s asking for help to find nominees.
The Institute for a Healthier Community, based at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, is looking for potential recipients of the inaugural ChangeMaker Award.
The deadline for nomination is June 28. The award will be presented July 23 at XFinity Arena in Everett during a conference with the theme, “At the Edge of Amazing.”
“Are there people who really embody this sense of personal action?” said Scott Forslund, the institute’s executive director. “There’s an effort to identify an individual who quietly embodies that spirit of seeing a need and taking action.”
Nominees can be of any age. They don’t have to be involved in health care. And nominations can be in memory of people who have died but made a difference in their community.
The institute decided to launch the ChangeMaker Award to recognize the “amazing resources and potential that this county has,” he said.
Nominations will be reviewed by Sister Georgette Bayless, who is celebrating her 70th year as a Sister of Providence. Sister Georgette, who served at Providence Everett, helped establish the sexual assault center, now called Providence Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse, as well as a hospice program, now called Providence Hospice and Homecare.
“I really want to make the point that this doesn’t mean super-heroes,” Forslund said of the ChangeMaker award. “Most of what allows this community to flourish is the actions of an army of individuals who see a need and take action.”
