Teacher of Year to be honored by state
Andrea Peterson, the 2007 National Teacher of the Year and a music teacher in the Granite Falls School District, is scheduled to be recognized today on the floor of the state Senate.
Sen. Val Stevens, R-Arlington, plans to honor Peterson with a resolution at 10 a.m. on the Senate floor in Olympia.
Peterson created a five-year plan to improve music learning. The plan combines music with art, math, science and other subjects.
Peterson and her family plan to be present for the resolution.
Marysville
City officials to visit Washington, D.C.
Several Marysville city officials plan to attend the National League of Cities annual Congressional City Conference, March 8-12, in Washington, D.C.
Members of the City Council, Mayor Dennis Kendall, chief administrative officer Mary Swenson and public works director Paul Roberts plan to take the trip.
The city officials also plan to meet with members of Congress and other federal officials to pursue funding for Marysville-area transportation projects.
As a result, the regular City Council meeting planned for March 10 has been canceled and the meeting March 3 has been changed from a work session to a regular meeting.

Silvana
Auction to benefit annual community fair
An auction to raise money for the Silvana Community Fair is being planned for early March.
The auction is 6 p.m. March 8 at the Viking Hall in Silvana. The event is expected to run about four hours.
More than 500 items are planned to be auctioned during the annual event, which is the fair’s only fundraiser. Items to be auctioned include an electric golf cart, gravel, sacks of feed and halters. Donations to the auction are being accepted.
The Silvana Community Fair is 9 to 5 p.m. July 26.

Stanwood
Performance to fund historical society
A band that specializes in Scandinavian music is planning to perform in Stanwood in early March.
The Pickled Herring Band is scheduled to play at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center at 27130 102nd Ave. NW.
Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors, and can be bought at the Snow Goose Bookstore in Stanwood, or at Copy This, Copy That at Camano Plaza. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Stanwood Area Historical Society.
The band, which plays a variety of schottisches, polkas, waltzes, foxtrots and swing numbers, has been featured on a Seattle radio station’s “Scandinavian Hour.” A music video featuring the group was recorded at Normana Hall in Everett.

Tulalip
Hunting tags due
Tulalip Tribal hunters should return their ceremonial hunting tags to Amanda Shelton in the Natural Resources Office.
The tags are released to tribal members to hunt game for cultural purposes. Tribes in the region each offer a limited number of tags.
