Arlington: Calling all snowmen to event
The Downtown Arlington Business Association is calling in all the painted snowmen displayed last Christmas for a rendezvous from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday along Olympic Avenue. A resident painted plywood snowmen and distributed them to businesses around town last winter.
Music and treats are planned during the association’s holiday open house.
Book sale for library, genealogy society
The Friends of Arlington Library and the Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society plan to offer a book sale from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the society’s library, 135 S. Olympic Ave., in downtown Arlington.
Those who buy $20 worth of books from the society get a free one-year membership in the Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society.
The library group plans to sell at a discount all new books, which were donated by the owner of a bookstore that recently went out of business.
The book sale will be accompanied by a bake sale at the same location.

Darrington: Resource center offers help
Darrington Family Resource Center offers a variety of services for children and teens.
The Homework Club provides support and assistance after school on Wednesdays. Life Skills, on Thursday afternoons for middle and high school students, teaches how to create a nutritious menu and then cook the meal.
Friday is Fun Day for all kids with passing grades. Movies, games and field trips are planned.
The center is located at 1075 Fir St. Volunteers are needed.

Marysville: City-wide food donation drive
Volunteers throughout the city are set to collect donations Saturday for the Marysville Community Food Bank.
The volunteers from Cascade Elementary, the City of Marysville, Girl Scouts of America, HomeStreet Bank, Kiwanis, Lions Club, Marysville Fire District, Marysville-Pilchuck High School ROTC, the Soroptimist Club of Marysville, and local youth groups, are scheduled to collect donations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Donations on Saturday can be taken to Marysville Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Grocery Outlet, Haggen, IGA and Safeway stores. Items also can be taken to the Marysville Community Food Bank or dropped in red barrels located throughout the city beginning Saturday.

Stanwood: Budget workshop scheduled
The Stanwood City Council plans to work on the city’s 2012 budget at 6 p.m. Thursday in the board room of the school district administration building, 26920 Pioneer Highway.

Breakfast to benefit historical society
Stanwood Area Historical Society plans to host its annual Swedish pancake and Belgian waffle breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, 27130 102nd Ave. NW.
Cost is $7 for the meal, which also includes sausage, orange juice and coffee.
