Arlington: Benefit variety show planned
Regional vaudeville legend Reverend Chumleigh returns to the stage Saturday for his Summer Variety Spectacular, bringing with him sword and fire artist Moz Wright, stunt- comedy-music fusion group Captain Trendo and the Blue Collar Cult, jazz-blues combo Thaddeus Spae and illusionist Nash Fung. The show is a benefit for the Boys and Girls Club of Arlington, which is struggling with budget shortfalls, organizers said.
Proceeds will be used in a scholarship fund to help low-income families send their kids to summer camp.
The show is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the old Arlington High School auditorium, 135 French St. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and active military or veterans and $5 for children.

Camano Island: Conservation meeting
The Snohomish Conservation District is holding a public meeting on its 2010 special assessment proposal.
The meeting is set for 7 p.m. Monday at the Island County Community Annex Building, 141 NE Camano Drive. Camano Island landowners are encouraged to attend.

Marysville: Model boat races are here
The North American Model Boat Association is holding its national championships at Gissberg Twin Lakes County Park in Marysville.
The event began last weekend and runs through Saturday at the park, 16324 Twin Lakes Ave.
About 200 competitors have traveled from around the world to race nearly 1,000 radio-controlled boats in 37 classes, according to the association. Boats reach speeds up to 80 mph.

Snohomish County: Help Sno-Isle libraries
The Sno-Isle Library system is seeking people for two opposing committees for and against a levy proposal on the Nov. 3 ballot.
The proposal would raise the levy to 40 cents per $1,000 of a house’s assessed value, up from the current 31 cents.
Anybody interested in the committees should submit his or her name, telephone numbers, and fax numbers to Sno-Isle Libraries Board of Trustees, 7312 35th Ave. NE, Marysville, WA 98271. The deadline is Wednesday. Please say whether you support or oppose the increase.
Sno-Isle will submit the first three names received to the Snohomish and Island counties auditors’ offices.
