City Council approves appointments to boards
Barbara Tolbert, executive director of the Arlington Fly-In, recently was appointed to serve on the Arlington Municipal Airport Commission. Tolbert also is a member of the city’s hotel-motel tourism tax committee.
The Arlington City Council also appointed Craig Chase to the Arlington Planning Commission.

Cemetery staff to offer pressure washing
Arlington Municipal Cemetery plans to offer pressure washing services, which the staff hopes will make decades-old granite markers shine again.
Additionally, cemetery staff remind people that artificial flowers and other decorations should be less than 24 inches high and 18 inches wide. Artificial flowers are allowed at the cemetery until March 31. Green plastic vases with spikes are available at the cemetery office, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

Library seeks better offerings for teens
Classes and activities for teenagers are part of an ongoing focus for the Arlington Library.
The library offers a manga book group meeting at 3 p.m. Feb. 2 and teen gaming at 3 p.m. Feb. 4 at the library, 135 N. Washington Ave.
The events are supported by the Friends of the Arlington Library.

Eagle photo contest deadline is Feb. 4
An eagle photography contest is running in conjunction with the second annual Arlington Eagle Festival, set for Feb. 7.
Entries must be submitted by Feb. 4 to recreation coordinator Sarah Hegge at Arlington City Hall, 238 N. Olympic Ave.
Prints of photos of eagles must be at least 8 by 10 inches and have been photographed in Snohomish County.

North County Fire gets funding for generator
North County Fire and Emergency Medical Services recently received a $38,000 Assistance to Firefighters grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to replace a generator at Station 90 on 252nd Street NE.
The old generator was only able to power half of the station’s needs, North County Battalion Chief Christian Davis said.
Camano Island
Planning commission to discuss development
The Island County Planning Commission plans to meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Camano Chapel, 867 S. West Camano Drive.
A public hearing about commercial development along Highway 532 is scheduled. The commission plans to consider changes to the Island County comprehensive plan.

Darrington
City to run snow sculpture contest
Darrington has endured a lot of snow this winter. To have some fun amidst the challenges of the weather, a contest is on, town clerk Lyla Boyd said.
The Mark Wicken Memorial Fund is offering cash prizes for the best snow sculpture in town.
Those who want to participate are asked to take a photo of their sculptures and list location of the artwork. The first place win is worth $100, second is $75 and third is $50. The submission deadline is Feb. 28.

Granite Falls
School district offers budget priority forums
The Granite Falls School District is hosting community forums at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at Mountain Way Elementary School to provide an overview of the district’s budget and request public input on funding priorities.
Schools are facing proposed budget reductions from state government, which faces a projected $6 billion revenue shortfall over the next two years.
The district is requesting suggestions from parents and local residents. The forum will provide an overview of the budget process and the opportunity to ask questions and provide input into funding priorities.
Marysville
Mayor to give annual State of the City speech
Mayor Dennis Kendall plans to present his State of the City 2009 address on Jan. 30.
The event is scheduled for a breakfast meeting of the Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce at 7:30 a.m. at the Tulalip Casino, 10200 Quil Ceda Blvd.
Doors open at 7 a.m., breakfast is served at 7:20 a.m. and the program starts at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $23 with prior registration and $28 at the door.

Youth advisory council members are sought
Stanwood Camano Community Resources Foundation officials are looking for young people to serve on the advisory council for the new youth activity center.
Those ages 11-18 are eligible to apply. Deadline is Jan. 30.
The council advises the foundation regarding activities and programs offered at the youth center.
