Arlington: College day at high school

Arlington High School has scheduled its annual College Day on Tuesday.

Community colleges, state colleges and universities plan to have representatives in attendance to answer questions and provide information.

A session for parents and students who want to learn more about how to pay for college is set for 6 to 7 p.m. in the Byrnes Performing Arts Center at the school, 18821 Crown Ridge Blvd.

Genealogical society session on early census

The Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society Library plans to host a presentation about early American census records at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 135 S. Olympic Ave.

Dave Thaler of Microsoft Corp. is set to talk about finding and tracking family members in the U.S. household census records from 1790 to 1840. By using his method of research, people can narrow the birth dates for children and spouses not named.

The session is free. The society meets regularly on the second Tuesday of each month.

Farm tour continues

Farms are a good place to enjoy autumn.

In the Arlington area, the nonprofit tour group Red Rooster Route and its Fall Pumpkin and Corn Maze Festival continues this weekend with free family activities among piles of pumpkins and stacks of other squash.

Garden Treasures Organic Farm plans to show people how apple cider is made on an old wooden cider press from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturday. Foster’s Corn Maze is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. along with activities that include a pumpkin sling and a toddler hay maze. The nighttime tours of the corn maze are from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturdays through the month. Wear boots and bring a flashlight. Contact Foster’s for admission prices for the maze

Darrington: Harvest festival on Saturday

The Mansford Grange Harvest Festival is set for 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday on Railroad Avenue behind the IGA grocery store.

The winner of the Giant Zucchini Hall Of Fame Award will be announced and local vendors plan to sell food and crafts.

Marysville: County budget meeting set

Learn more about Snohomish County’s 2012 budget process at a Wednesday night forum at City Hall.

The meeting is one of three the County Council has scheduled next week.

It’s scheduled from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The address is 1049 State Ave., Marysville. The event will give people a chance to tell County Council members their opinions about spending priorities.

Another meeting also is scheduled at the same time Monday in Monroe at the East County Senior Center, 276 Sky River Parkway. That’s followed at the same time Tuesday by a meeting at Alderwood Water District, 3626 156th St. SW, Lynnwood.
