Camano Island: Free outdoor cinema
The ninth annual Camano Island Free Summer Outdoor Cinema continues this week and each Friday through Sept. 16 at Chumleighland, at the southwest corner of East Camano Drive and Dallman Road.

Marysville: Learn about bugs at class
Marysville Parks and Recreation plans to offer a class July 16 called, “Bugs and More!” for kids.
Children ages 6 to 12 can learn about bugs, make bug jewelry, enjoy a “bug” snack and learn why bugs are important at the class set for 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Jennings Park.
The class costs $15 plus a $5 supply fee. Registration is required. Jennings Park is located at 6915 Armar Road.

Summer concert and movie series begin
The Marysville Parks and Recreation’s Sounds of Summer Concert Series and Sounds of Summer Movie Series will begin soon.
The Sammy Steele Band is scheduled to perform modern country and blues music at 7 p.m. Friday at Jenning’s Park, 6915 Armar Road.
A free screening of the movie “How to Train Your Dragon” is planned at 9 p.m. Saturday at Jenning’s Park.
The free concert and movie screening is sponsored by Waste Management.

Oso: Party honors retiring firefighter
Sandy Baker is retiring from the Oso Fire Department.

Stanwood: Storytime at Teddy Bear Picnic
The Cat in the Hat and local dignitaries plan to read stories from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 14 at the Stanwood Camano Community Resource Center, 9612 271st St. NW.
Children and their parents are invited to bring a sack lunch, a bear toy and a blanket to help celebrate literacy at the 11th annual Teddy Bear Picnic.
Mayor Dianne White, Stanwood children’s librarian Almira Jones, Police Chief Ty Trenary and the center’s vice president Pat Richardson will join the Cat in Hat to read their favorite children’s stories. Beverages, dessert and a free book are to be provided to each child participating in the event.
