Arlington: Learn about county records

The Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society plans to meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday to hear Mary Buzzell talk about her research at the Colombia County Courthouse in Dayton.

Her research applies to most counties, a spokeswoman for the society said.

The presentation is open to the public and held at the society’s library, 135 N. Olympic Ave.

Camano Island: Be a habitat steward

Friends of Camano Island Parks plans to train volunteers to serve as Habitat Stewards to help the community with wildlife habitat. The training includes identifying native plants, creating a personal wildlife sanctuary and more.

Training is set for 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 10 through March 10 at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road. Two field trips, Feb. 12 and March 5, and a work party, March 12, are part of the training.

Cost is $40 for course expenses and includes a 30-hour volunteer commitment to assist the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project.

Lake Stevens: Art Commission opening

The city of Lake Stevens is accepting applications for a vacant position on the Arts Commission. The applications can be picked up at City Hall.

The Arts Commission’s focus is to advise the mayor and council regarding the acquisition and display of art in public places. Interested applicants must complete a questionnaire to be considered for an interview.

Commission meetings are scheduled at 6:30 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at the Community Center, 1808 Main Street.

Marysville: Trekking class offered Tuesdays

Recreation Without Borders and Marysville Parks and Recreation are offering a guided walking series designed for those who would like to leisurely explore parks and trails.

Trekkers board a van for weekly walks from 9 a.m. to noon every Tuesday at different locations.

The cost is $72 for five weeks. Trekking begins Friday and meets at Jennings Memorial Park, 6915 Armar Road.

Stanwood: Society sponsors concert

Guitarist Oleg Timofeyev and flutist Jeffrey Cohan are scheduled to perform Irish and Scottish music from the baroque era and music for the seven-string Russian guitar.

The concert, sponsored by the Salish Sea Early Music Society and the Stanwood Area Historical Society, is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, 27130 102nd Ave. NW in Stanwood.

The suggested donation is $15. Youth ages 18 and younger are invited to come and listen for free.
