Stanwood: Glass Quest to start Feb. 18
Hoping for a winter tourism boost, Stanwood and Camano Island business owners are gearing up for a second year of the glass ball treasure hunt.
The 2011 Great Northwest Glass Quest is set for Feb. 18 through 27.
Stanwood-area glass artist Mark Ellinger has created more than 200 hand-blown glass snowballs for the event. Each of the snowball treasures are to be held at local businesses. Maps and clue balls lead treasure hunters to the locations of the glass snowballs.
Treasure hunters who do not find one of the snowballs can enter a drawing or purchase one at a reduced price. Last year, the names of 13 people were selected in the drawing.
Participating businesses and sponsors can attend the 2011 Glass Quest Kick-Off at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island.
