Arlington: Preschool storytime Saturday

Arlington Library offers two Saturday afternoon storytimes for preschool children, ages 3 to 5.

Parents or caregivers can bring kids to the library at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Jan. 29 for a program that helps preschoolers get ready to read with stories, songs and rhymes.

The library is located at 135 N Washington Ave.

The storytime program is made available with support from Friends of the Arlington Library.

Bothell: Learn about Edmonds’ schools

Parents can learn more about the schools in the Edmonds School District and get kindergarten registration packages at its information fair, from 9 a.m. to noon, tomorrow at Lynnwood High School, located at 18218 North Road, in Bothell.

Kindergartens start their registration Feb. 7.

There will be raffle prizes and all principals from the district’s 33 schools and programs will be present for questions.

The fair also will inform incoming middle and high school students of the programs and what should they expect at their new schools.

Lake Stevens: Valentine’s dance

The Lake Stevens Family Centers Youth Advisory Council and the Lake Stevens Senior Center plan to host a Valentine’s dance Feb. 11.

The dance, from 5 to 8 p.m., will be held in the cafeteria at North Lake Middle School at 2202 123rd Ave. NE.

Bob Justice is set to spin tunes from the 1940s to the present, for guests ranging in age from 11 to 91.

A suggested donation of $5 per person includes dinner and dancing.

Marysville: Polar adventurer to give talk

The first woman to reach a world pole trekking solo is set to talk about her adventure Feb. 11 at Marysville City Hall.

Helen Thayer is scheduled to speak about her journey to the North Pole from 7 to 8 p.m. in the council chambers at 1049 State Ave.

Thayer plans to sign her book, “Polar Dreams,” at a reception beginning at 6:15 p.m. and after her presentation until 8:30 p.m.

Registration is required. Register online through Marysville Parks’ ePlay system at www.marysvillewa.gov, or complete the downloadable Parks Class Registration Form from the city website.

Tickets are $25 for ages 12 and older or bring a friend for $40 and save $10 off the individual ticket price.

Stanwood: Speaker at community meeting to talk about heroin

The public is invited to a meeting Monday about heroin abuse among young people.

The meeting was organized by a community coalition that was established to educated parents and young people about the growing use of heroin in Stanwood and throughout Snohomish County.

Randy Pierce, of Snohomish, is scheduled to be the guest speaker. Pierce’s 18-year-old son, Corey, died in April after overdosing on heroin.

Since his son’s death Pierce has spoken at numerous schools in an effort to educate people about the dangers of heroin.

Monday’s meeting will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Stanwood’s Foursquare Church, 27007 90th Ave. NW, behind the Dairy Queen at Viking Village.
