Arlington: Downtown parade Saturday kicks off city’s Hometown Holiday celebration

The annual Santa Parade, the first event in the downtown Arlington’s Hometown Holiday celebration, is set for noon Saturday along Olympic Avenue.

The Christmas tree lighting, caroling and Santa Claus visits follow from 1 to 3 p.m. in Legion Park. Musical performances continue into the evening along Olympic Avenue. Covered wagon rides are offered from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Dec. 12 and 19.

Genealogical Society offers tour and cookie sale

Stillaguamish Valley Genealogical Society plans a cookie sale and library tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 135 N. Olympic Ave.

Police seek volunteers to give 10 hours time a month

The Arlington Police Department is looking for volunteers to help with the administrative duties. The department also is looking for a management-geared volunteer to supervise the program. For more details or to pick up the application packet, go to City Hall or the police department.

Camano Island: Groups win tourism grants

Island County officials recently announced the 2010 distribution of hotel-motel tax funds totalling $110,000.

Camano Island Chamber of Commerce is set to receive more than $18,000 for its visitor information center and tourism marketing programs.

Other recipients of the tourism funds include the Admiralty Head Lighthouse, Island County Historical Society Museum; the chambers of Central Whidbey, Clinton, Freeland, Oak Harbor and Langley; and festivals in Coupeville, a Whidbey Island farm tour and a walking tour, the Meerkerk Rhododendron Gardens and Pacific Northwest Art School.

Darrington: PTSA sponsors bazaar

Darrington Parent, Teacher, Student Association offers its annual holiday bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Darrington Elementary, 1075 Fir St.

Marysville: Groups can get the word out on government access TV channels

Nonprofit or civic groups may promote events, services, meetings or other information on Marysville government access TV channels. Messages and artwork may be submitted online at the city’s Web site, www.marysvillewa.gov.

Stanwood: Yule Fest celebration Saturday

Stanwood Community and Senior Center offers a free Yule Fest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Tazer Valley Farm, 7314 300th St. NW. Planned are activities for kids and visits with Santa Claus, plus fund-raising efforts including a silent auction, gift shopping and food.
