Arlington: Softball school starts Monday

The 2010 Pacific Northwest Softball School, owned by former Western Washington University coach Lonnie Hicks, offers a week-long fast-pitch summer clinic for youths 8 to 18.

The clinic is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 19-23 at Quake Field, just north of Arlington Boys &Girl’s Club on 59th Avenue NE in Arlington.

Sunday chicken dinner benefits senior center

Stillaguamish Senior Center offers a family-style Sunday chicken dinner from noon to 2 p.m. July 25 at the center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd.

Proceeds benefit senior center programs.

Moms gear up for powder-puff football

The Arlington Youth Football Association is planning a powder-puff football game set for 5 p.m. Sunday at the old high school stadium at Haller Middle School, 600 E. First St.

The Lakewood Cougar moms plan to play the Arlington Eagle moms.

Tickets are $5 or $10 for a family. Proceeds benefit scholarships for kids in low-income families.

Camano Island: Burn ban back on

The ban on outdoor burning begins at 8 a.m. Thursday on Whidbey and Camano islands.

Island County Sheriff Mark Brown said the ban includes no outdoor burning of natural debris, even with a permit.

In addition, recreational fires are allowed only in approved fire pits.

Marysville: Hotel tax money distributed

Several organizations recently were approved to receive funds from the city of Marysville for projects that promote the city.

State law allows hotel-motel tax revenues to be given to nonprofit groups, including city departments, for projects that promote or contribute to tourism.

The City Council on July 6 approved distributing $57,577 to eight different organizations. These include $20,000 to the city of Marysville for visitor tourism support; $17,846 to the city of Marysville parks department, and $7,200 to the Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce.

Tom Petty cover band plays free park concert

Petty Fever, a Tom Petty concert cover band, is scheduled to perform Friday in Marysville.

The free event is planned for 7 p.m. at Jennings Park, 6915 Armar Road, as part of the city’s Sounds of Summer Concert Series.
