Arlington: Seminar on memory loss

Stillaguamish Senior Center plans to present a free Alzheimer’s Association seminar on early-stage memory loss from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd.

The program is designed for people who are experiencing memory loss or are in the early stages of dementia. Family members are encouraged to attend the seminar with them.

The registration process that includes a short phone interview.

Arlington: Runway closed this morning

Arlington Municipal Airport plans to close Runway 16-34 from 6 to 11 a.m. today to allow Arlington Fly-In staff to remove the temporary circle that was painted on the runway.

In addition, Runway 11-29 is scheduled to be closed the week of Aug. 2 for slurry sealing and on Aug. 9 for striping.

The paving project previously was scheduled to begin Monday.

Camano: See String Band’s Colton video

Jack Archibald of the South End String Band on Camano Island said that in the wake of the capture of Colton Harris-Moore, the band’s video of its song, “The Sad Saga of Colton Harris-Moore” on YouTube has had many thousands of hits.

The band’s song about Harris-Moore, known internationally as the Barefoot Bandit, was written a few years ago but never released.

“We didn’t want to promote Colton as a folk hero kids would emulate,” Archibald said. “When he became one anyway, we decided last January to make a video, record the song and ask Colton to turn himself in before anyone got hurt. After that, he pretty much decided to put himself and Camano and the South End on the world map. We just happened to be the band down the road.”

Darrington: School offers free lunch

Darrington School District offers a free lunch program for kids up to age 19.

Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the summer in the school cafeteria.

A craft program also is offered during lunch, which includes a salad bar, soup and sandwiches.

Darrington: New culverts for highway

The Forest Service plans to close Mountain Loop Highway to traffic during August at various locations in order to install new culverts. Construction will close the road from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the following dates and locations:

Aug. 2-3 at milepost 39.5; Aug. 4-5 at milepost 37.8, 42.5, and 34.7; Aug. 9-10 at milepost 35.2-36.85; Aug. 11-12 at milepost 38.6; Aug. 16-17 at milepost 39.7; Aug. 18-19 at milepost 40.4; Aug. 23-26 at milepost 38.25 – 38.00; and Aug. 30-Sept 1 at milepost 39.00.
