Arlington: Soccer fundraiser planned
“Kicking Batten’s for Carl” is a soccer clinic and silent auction fundraiser set for Saturday in the playfields adjacent to the Arlington Boys &Girls Club on 59th Avenue NE.
Carl Bergram, the late son of Jeff and Robin Bergam, suffered from Batten Disease, a neurological disorder that causes seizures, mental impairment, a progressive loss of sight and, finally, death. Carl died Feb. 3, 2009. There is no known cure for the disease.
The soccer clinic is at 9 a.m. Saturday and the auction starts at 1 p.m.
Funds raised go to the Batten Disease Support and Research Association.
Darrington: Tow Mater coming to town
There’s yet another chance to be photographed with Tow Mater, and it’s not too early to note it on your calendar.
Jack Walkley, Ray Brown and Erik Davidson of Everett created a life-size, drivable replica of Tow Mater from the Disney/Pixar movie “Cars,” and Walkley plans to drive it to Darrington for the town’s July 4 parade.
The photo event after the parade is a fundraiser for Kids Place preschool program in Darrington.

Marysville: Strawberry Fest starts Saturday
The 78th annual Marysville Strawberry Festival kicks off in earnest Saturdaywith the Berry Run.
The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. at the Smokey Point Plant Farm, 15022 Twin Lakes Ave. Registration is at 7:45 a.m.
The festival runs through June 20. An open market, fair food, live music, entertainment for kids and more is planned. The Twilight Grand Parade is scheduled for 8 p.m. June 19.

Marysville: New high school tours slated
Guided tours of Marysville Getchell High School are scheduled for Saturday. The new campus is slated to open in September. People taking the tours must park at Cedarcrest Middle School, 6400 88th St. NE, and get a bus ride up the hill. The tour takes about one hour and will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Stanwood: Help offered to veterans
Frank H. Hancock American Legion Post 92 members plan to host a Veterans Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Legion post, 26921 88th Ave. NW, in Stanwood.
The informational fair is open to veterans, widows and families.
Bring along your discharge papers to get help filling out Veterans Administration health care forms and claims applications. The post plans to serve lunch.
