Arlington: Not enough volunteers to make chicken dinner

The Stillaguamish Senior Center’s monthly chicken dinner in July has been cancelled.

Volunteers who work in the kitchen must have a food handler’s permit, which limits the number of people available to prepare the meal, center officials said.

The next dinner is set for Aug. 29.

For more information or to volunteer, contact DJ Winebrinner at the center, 360-653-4551.

Warm Beach: Paramedic service to end if EMS levy fails

The Board of Commissioners for North County Fire/EMS recently decided to end paramedic service for residents of its service area if the emergency medical services levy on the Aug. 17 election ballot should fail.

North County fire department serves about 15,000 people in the communities of Warm Beach, Freeborn and Bryant. Most of the calls to the department are medical emergencies.

If voters don’t approve the levy, potential layoffs include six to nine firefighter/paramedics, said North County spokesman Battalion Chief Christian Davis.

As a result, emergency medical care levels would be reduced from advanced life support to basic life support, and response times could increase, Davis said.

Paramedics provide advanced care in a medical emergency, while emergency medical technicians cannot administer medication and are limited to external procedures only, he said.
