EVERETT — Officials at North Middle School are investigating an incident Tuesday in which a substitute teacher allegedly hit one of her students with a clipboard.
“We immediately removed the substitute teacher from the classroom, which means that she has not been placed elsewhere,” said Leanna Albrecht, an Everett Public Schools spokeswoman.
The incident took place around noon toward the end of fourth period, Albrecht said.
The teacher called four students into the office in the girls locker room to address an unspecified classroom issue, she said. That’s where the incident occurred.
“We’re working closely with the families regarding the incident,” Albrecht said.
“We expect all of our staff to treat our students with respect to foster a safe learning environment,” she said.
The investigation is ongoing. The substitute was serving a long-term assignment at North Middle School, scheduled to end in November.
The teacher is therefore on paid administrative leave during the investigation, or until the end of her placement period, whichever comes first.
The school has sent notes to parents alerting them to the incident and the investigation, Albrecht said.
