KLM Royal Dutch Airlines orders two 777s
SEATTLE — KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has ordered three of the Boeing Co.’s single-aisle 737s and two extended-range widebody 777s, the companies said Thursday.
KLM also took out options for one additional 737 and two extra 777s.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Boeing said the planes are worth $716 million at list prices, though airlines typically negotiate discounts. The order was previously attributed to an unnamed customer.
With its most recent order, KLM has six 777-300ERs on order and is scheduled to take delivery of its first one in the first quarter of next year. KLM’s current fleet includes 15 777-200ERs, some of them owned, others leased.
Olympia: Air advisory for E. Washington
The Washington Department of Ecology has issued an air stagnation advisory for the valleys on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Range.
The state urges people to limit their use of woodstoves and fireplaces through Sunday.
Smoke from burning wood gets trapped in the air during stagnant conditions, especially in low-lying areas.
Fine particles in smoke can be inhaled deeply into the lungs, posing health risks for people with asthma, lung or heart problems.
Spokane: Man dies after police chase
A 20-year-old man died when his car skidded off the road as he was fleeing from police in Spokane.
Troopers stopped the man for investigation of drunken driving around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
The man reportedly assaulted an officer who was trying to arrest him, then took off in his car. At one point, he failed to negotiate a curve, and the car skidded off the road and went down an embankment.

The 20-year-old parents of a baby born with a cleft palate have been charged with second-degree murder after authorities say the child starved to death.
Katrina Lauderdale was born in Oct. 24, 2006, in Oregon, and had to be specially fed because of her birth defect.
In court papers filed last week, police say her parents, Deidre and Charles Lauderdale, were told to take their daughter in for regular doctor’s visits to make sure she was being fed properly, but that they failed to do so after moving to Spokane.
Investigators say Katrina weighed less than 7 pounds when she died — about five ounces shy of her birth weight.

A federal judge in Spokane has sentenced a 51-year-old man to nearly four years in prison on charges that he made illegal silencers for firearms.
Michael G. Teasley pleaded guilty to manufacturing an unregistered firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition.
Two other firearms charges were dismissed as part of the plea bargain.
Tacoma: Pilot indicted on child sex charges
A 47-year-old pilot already charged with nine felony counts of child sex crimes in state court was indicted Wednesday on four federal charges.
Weldon Marc Gilbert of Lake Tapps was charged with three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in the production of child pornography and one count of transportation of a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity.
Gilbert has pleaded not guilty to the state charges, which include second-degree child rape and child molestation. He is to be arraigned on the federal counts Wednesday in federal court.
