Kalama: A really bad day for the track team
Monday proved to be unlucky for Kalama track athletes after a javelin impaled one student’s shoulder and a shot put struck another student on the head during practice. Around 4 p.m., 12th-grader James Dodson was pierced through the shoulder by the pointed back end of a javelin that was sticking out of the ground, his teammates said. They say he walked or fell onto the javelin. Minutes later, seventh-grader Anthony Botassi was struck on the head with a shot put. Teammates said a teammate didn’t see Anthony on the field as he was retrieving a ball. St. John Medical Center said Dodson was listed in satisfactory condition Monday, and Anthony was stabilized and transferred to another hospital. The school is investigating both incidents.
