New UW building will be named PACCAR Hall
SEATTLE — In recognition of an $18 million gift from PACCAR and its controlling Pigott family, the University of Washington will name the first of two new business school buildings PACCAR Hall.
The name was approved Friday by the UW regents. The building will be part of the Michael G. Foster School of Business.
The $18 million donation makes PACCAR among the top five corporate lifetime donors to the UW, the university said in a news release.
Work on PACCAR Hall is scheduled to begin this fall, with completion in 2010. It will be a 135,000-square-foot facility with classrooms, faculty office space, a 250-seat auditorium, student lounges and a boardroom. A second building is scheduled to be completed in 2012.
PACCAR, based in Bellevue, makes trucks under the Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF names.

A man has been found guilty of assault for hitting and fatally injuring a Seattle City Council aide with his station wagon in a West Seattle intersection 14 months ago.
Ephraim Schwartz was convicted Friday by a Seattle Municipal Court jury. The 37-year-old Schwartz was charged under a two-year-old city law, which says a driver can be found guilty of assault if he commits a traffic infraction and that infraction results in the death of a pedestrian.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $5,000 fine.
Sentencing is expected next month.
Tacoma: Misdemeanor charge for deputy
A Pierce County sheriff’s deputy accused of having sexual contact with a woman while on duty pleaded not guilty Friday to a charge of first-degree criminal trespass with sexual motivation.
The gross misdemeanor charge was filed against Joseph Sumner Qualls, 27.
Qualls was accused of having sex with the woman after giving her a ride home Jan. 4 when he found her drunk behind the wheel of her car. Prosecutors say he had sex at her house again a week later and was arrested Tuesday night when he returned to her house.
Qualls said the sex was consensual.
Three charged with aggravated murder
Three men have been charged with two counts each aggravated murder in the slashing of two men’s throats at an apartment with a marijuana growing operation in September.
Pierre Thelberg Spencer III, 26, pleaded not guilty Thursday in Pierce County Superior Court. Bail was set at $5 million, and the clock began ticking on a 30-day deadline for prosecutors to decide whether to seek the death penalty in his case.
The same charges were filed against Tyreek Deanthony Smith, 22, who was arrested Wednesday in Georgia, and Darrell Kantreal Jackson, 21, who was caught Thursday in Tacoma. A decision on the death penalty in their cases will be due within 30 days after they are arraigned.
The only other penalty for aggravated murder is life in prison without parole.
Spokane: Officer fired for drinking on job
A Spokane police officer accused of drinking on the job and using his department cellular telephone to photograph a woman baring her breasts has been fired.
Police Chief Anne E. Kirkpatrick said Thursday that Officer Jason Uberuaga, a 10-year veteran, is being terminated as of Jan. 23 for conduct unbecoming an officer. He is expected to appeal his dismissal to arbitration.
Uberuaga is accused of using his police cell phone to take pictures of a woman baring her breasts — and then of having sex with her in a tavern parking lot while off duty in October.
She claimed he sexually assaulted her at a Spokane Valley bar. Investigators cleared him of criminal wrongdoing, but the chief says he violated department policy, partly by drinking while using a police car.
