Olympia: Abortion rights backers and foes plan rallies
Abortion rights supporters and opponents are planning rallies this week at the state Capitol in Olympia.
Backers of abortion rights are set to gather on Thursday, the 36th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe vs. Wade ruling.
An opposing group, March For Life, also sought that date but state officials say the other group’s application was submitted first. As a result the March for Life is set for today as part of a week of anti-abortion activity.
Shinzuno Margot Wynkoop of Olympia, an abortion rights supporter, says she was determined to get an application in first. She says abortion rights advocates should celebrate the landmark Supreme Court ruling, rather than settle for a counter presence at anti-abortion rallies on the anniversary day.
