SEATAC — Two women trying to escape a three-alarm fire at a Seatac apartment complex Saturday night fell at least 50 feet and sustained leg and pelvis injuries, a fire official said Sunday.
King County Fire District 20 spokesman Dave Nelson said the women jumped from third-story balconies and sustained life-threatening injuries. They are at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center.
The fire started about 7 p.m. at the 48-unit Emerald Place by the Lake Apartments.
Video reviewed by fire investigators shows children jumping from balconies and people lowering other children to safety.
In addition to the two injured women, seven people were taken to hospitals with minor injuries. Nelson said all had been released by Sunday evening.
Nelson said the complex didn’t have sprinklers.

More than 20 demonstrators were detained and photographed, and three were arrested for investigation of rioting and violating police orders.

A woman charged with killing a pregnant woman and cutting the baby from her womb is now scheduled for trial on May 18.
The delay was granted Friday in Benton County Superior Court to allow more time for a death penalty decision in the case of 24-year-old Phiengchai Sisouvanh Synhavong.
She’s charged with aggravated first-degree murder in the death of Araceli Camacho Gomez on June 27 in Pasco. Synhavong is accused of cutting Gomez’s nearly full-term son from her womb and claiming the baby as her own.
Prosecutor Andrew Miller now has until March 10 to decide whether to seek the death penalty.

B.C.: Snow slides kill two snowmobilers
Snow slides left two more snowmobilers dead over the weekend in British Columbia, raising the province’s avalanche death total for the season to 15.
As of Sunday, Royal Canadian Mounted Police had not released the identity of either victim.
Avalanche dangers have been high throughout much of British Columbia’s many mountain ranges this winter. Eight snowmobilers died late last month, when they were caught in a series of avalanches near Fernie in the southeast corner of the province.
