SPOKANE — A porcupine that wandered onto the eastbound lanes of I-90 in Spokane and found itself trapped was rescued by a Washington state transportation worker with a very long-handled shovel.
The animal had managed to make it from the median barrier to the right edge of the freeway but couldn’t get over the concrete barrier.
A state Transportation Department worker stepped in with the shovel and gave the porcupine the boost it needed.
Tacoma: Thieves use stolen debit cards
A Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman says thieves using stolen debit card information withdrew thousands of dollars from individual bank accounts over the Fourth of July weekend.
Detectives say they have identified more than 60 victims and expect more reports. Some account holders lost as much as $4,000, while $1,000 was withdrawn from others.
Detectives say the information was obtained by using electronic skimming machines placed on gas pumps at an ARCO station in the South Hill area of Pierce County. They believe the information was stolen last August.
