SNOHOMISH — A nurse who worked at a Snohomish nursing home was sentenced Monday for tampering with patients’ pain medication.
Jolene Larsen, 38, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Seattle to a year in prison, according to the Justice Department. She pleaded guilty in November to tampering with consumer products.
She was caught last year diluting patients’ morphine with water. She was stealing the morphine for her own use, according to the Justice Department.
Some of the victims were dying and Larsen’s actions increased their pain in their final days, U.S. District Judge James L. Robart said.
Larsen had been employed at the Merry Haven Care Center in Snohomish for 14 years. She admitted to stealing morphine there from November 2009 to May 2010.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Food and Drug Administration and Snohomish police.
