Officials rule out homicide in woman’s death

INDEX – A woman whose body was found Monday was not the victim of a homicide, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

A neighbor found the body around midnight in a house in the 19300 block of River Place, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen. The cause of the death was not apparent and the sheriff’s office called out its major crimes unit to investigate, Jorgensen said.

“At this time, this is not being investigated as a homicide,” she said.

Thought to be in her early to mid-30s, the woman’s identity was not released. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.

Meeting scheduled on sex offender: The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office plans a public meeting about a registered sex offender living in the 4900 block of 85th Place NE.

Arthur Schroeder, 72, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of several counts of rape. The crimes, involving 20 victims, took place between 1980 and 1983.

The victims ranged in ages 10 to 17. Schroeder supplied the girls with alcohol and marijuana to keep them from reporting the crimes, according to the sheriff’s office. He was released from prison in October. He did not attend sex-offender treatment while in prison and is considered at a high risk to reoffend.

Schroeder is white, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 190 pounds with blue eyes and gray receding hair.

The community meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 7 at Cedarcrest School, 6400 88th St. NE. For more information, call 425-388-3354.
