BELLINGHAM — A judge says it’s OK for the Whatcom Humane Society to condemn a man accused of shooting a dog in Bellingham.
The lawyer for David William Latham told a judge Thursday that a post on the society’s website was inappropriate because it called for Latham to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Attorney Adrian Madrone said an official enforcement agency should not take a position on the case.
The Bellingham Herald reports the judge denied the request for a restraining order and said the court couldn’t limit the organization’s right to free speech.
Latham is charged with animal cruelty in the Sept. 13 shooting in a neighbor’s yard.
The 55-year-old was annoyed by barking, but the corgi name Molly wasn’t the dog that had been barking.
