OLYMPIA — The Olympia City Council is considering a 25-foot no-panhandling zone around ATMs and parking pay stations.
The Olympian reports the council is taking up the issue at Tuesday night’s meeting, the first in the new City Hall.
A downtown code enforcement officer, Ruthie Snyder, says residents and merchants have complained about aggressive panhandling since July when the city started using parking pay stations. Some panhandlers have been blocking the stations when drivers walk up to pay for parking.
