OLYMPIA — A Thurston County sheriff’s spokesman says a 63-year-old man shot and wounded a burglary suspect that the homeowner found when he returned to his house Tuesday night.
Lt. Greg Elwin said the man had returned home with his wife and grabbed a handgun when he heard noises on the second floor.
Elwin said the intruder either tried to assault or did assault the homeowner at the head of the stairs. That’s when the homeowner shot the man in the thigh.
The Olympian reported that the 27-year-old wounded man was not armed. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle but his injury is not considered life-threatening.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Ken Clark said the homeowner only pulled the trigger after the intruder attacked him.
Elwin said the homeowner is not under investigation for the shooting.
