MALTBY – A three-vehicle pileup blocked Highway 9 in Maltby this afternoon.
One person was hurt and taken to the hospital with injuries that weren’t life threatening, Washington State Patrol trooper Keith Leary said.
Around 2 p.m., a semi-truck headed north collided with a passenger car that was pulling out of a residential area near 203rd Street SE, Leary said.
A pick-up truck, driven by a Kirkland man, 68, was southbound. The driver braked to avoid the collision, but the semi crossed the center line and the two trucks collided head-on, Leary said.
Snohomish County Fire District 7 rescue crews had to help the man out of his truck before they rushed him to the hospital.
About 20 gallons of diesel fuel spilled and was contained on the side of the road, Leary said.
State Department of Ecology crews were expected to come monitor the cleanup.
Traffic in the area was blocked for about an hour. Crews were expected to open at least one lane by 3 p.m., Leary said.
